Abstract

During the recent economic crisis, new generations of college graduates have entered the labor market each year facing lower labor demand, which has severely affected their transition into the labor market. In this article, we use the survival method to analyze the duration of unemployment, measured from graduation to first employment, for students who completed a college education or degree program between 2007 and 2011. Due to adverse economic conditions during the crisis, graduates in journalism, arts and humanities, and business and administration were most affected, while the recent economic crisis had no impact on graduates in education, health care, and social work.
